Katie Holmes has experienced much success in her acting career, and it should come as no surprise since her teenage roles on “Dawson’s Creek” were so popular with widespread audiences. Katie started her enthusiasm for acting in high school, with modest praise from local audiences, but did not think about entering the acting foray until an agent encouraged her to travel to Los Angeles. Katie’s first major role came in the film, “The Ice Storm”, but also tried out for a new series, entitled “Dawson’s Creek”. Holmes played the role of Joey, and it was a role that she would continually play for six years. Early into her role on “Dawson’s Creek”, Katie starred in many other feature films, such as: “Go”, “Disturbing Behavior”, and “Wonder Boys”, all of which tended to feature Holmes as the girl next door. Her career continued to thrive, and she went on to appear nude in the film, “The Gift”, a decision that many have said was a good one and furthered the number of roles that Holmes could take on in the future. Holmes appeared in 2003’s “Abandon”, as the lead role, while also appearing in 2003’s “Pieces of April”, which displayed Holmes’ ability to portray a more troubled person than she is accustomed to. Katie also had a different kind of movie role in the film, “The Singing Detective”, with Robert Downey Jr. Holmes appeared in the dark film, and was very enthusiastic about the role, because of the opportunity it gave for her to show off her singing talent.
More recent years have seen Holmes participate in more, big box office thrillers, like “Batman Begins”, and satires, like “Thank You For Smoking”, which also showcased Holmes’ ability to appear in a more risqué nature. Holmes’ life and environment changed drastically in 2005, when she began her romance with actor/production mogul, Tom Cruise. The relationship was put in the spotlight in the summer of 2005, after an “Oprah” appearance where Cruise mentioned their relationship and performed many eccentric gestures. Their relationship has been plagued with criticism, most of which has been directed at Cruise, while many tabloids have noted his unstable nature, and her possible feelings of fear, for herself and their daughter, Suri. Cruise and Holmes were married in late 2006, and the affair was high on the entertainment lists of “Events of 2006”. The ceremony was held in a castle, in Italy, and many of their entertainment peers were present for the wedding, which went as planned.
Interesting Facts
Katie has been linked to her fair share of A list actors before hooking up with Cruise. Most notable would be her relationship with heartthrob Chris Klein, of “American Pie” fame, who dated Holmes for five years, and was engaged for over two. The engagement was broken up in 2005. She also dated “Dawson’s” costar, Joshua Jackson, who she still refers to as a good friend.
