She may not have been officially Canada’s “Centennial Baby”, having been born on Centennial Day 1967, since another baby was born two hours before her. However, popular Playboy model and “Barb Wire” star Pamela Anderson, has since enjoyed her very generous share of fame. In fact, she has become a poster girl for blonde, busty bombshells all around the world, especially after her role as C.J. Parker in the widely syndicated “Baywatch” series and for her highly publicized relationships with famous rockers such as Tommy Lee.
When Pamela moved to Los Angeles, she bleached her brunette hair blonde. She experienced her first taste of fame when she and her friends attended a Canadian football game in 1989. After being spotted by the cameras, she appeared on the giant TV screen. Pamela, who was wearing a shirt with a logo of Labatt’s beer, was led on to the field and was given a standing ovation. Labatt’s later offered her a modeling contract which she accepted, and the rest is history!
Pamela, who first posed nude for Playboy magazine in 1989, can be considered a risk taker. When she moved to Los Angeles, she underwent breast augmentation and landed a minor role on the sitcom “Home Improvement” in 1991. Two seasons later, she left the show for a role in “Baywatch”, a move that truly changed her life. She gained tremendous popularity and became an international star thanks to her role as the swimsuit-clad C.J. In 1998, she produced and starred in her own series, “V.I.P.”, but the show bombed. Despite this, the series lasted four seasons because viewers tuned in just to watch her. In 2005, she appeared in the short lived sitcom “Stacked.”
Pamela has also released two books “Star” and “Star Struck” and she has appeared in numerous TV shows including “Late Night with David Letterman”, “Saturday Night Live”, “The Nanny” and WWE shows. She gained notoriety when she went public with her views on sex and for her marriage with renowned bad boy Tommy Lee of Motley Crue and singer Kid Rock. Pamela, who has two sons with Tommy, was reported to have been abused by her husband. An infamous home sex tape was also leaked to the public via the internet after it was reportedly stolen from their home. Pamela filed for divorce in 1998 and was briefly engaged to male supermodel Marcus Schenkenberg. However, the relationship ended in 2001. Pamela married Kid Rock in 2006 in a ceremony held aboard a yacht in St. Tropez, France. In November of that same year, Pamela suffered a miscarriage while filming “Blonde and Blonder” in Vancouver. A mere seventeen days after the regrettable incident, she filed for divorce from the singer.
Although her personal life became problematic, Pamela continued to work. She became an advocate for animal rights, campaigned against the use of fur and seal hunting and also became a spokesperson for the AIDS Fund of the cosmetics brand, MAC and for the American Liver Foundation.
For all her accomplishments, Pamela earned a star on Canada’s Walk of Fame in 2006, the second model to have achieved such a feat. That same year, she became the only non-singer to host the acclaimed Juno Awards. She garnered worldwide fame once again when she was repeatedly mentioned as Borat’s dream girl in the blockbuster hit Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan.
