Carrie Underwood Winning More Awards
Friday, April 20, 2007
The fan-determined CMT Music Awards gave Carrie Underwood several awards this year. She won best video director, female video, and video of the year with her vengeance-loaded hit “Before He Cheats.” The song has her destroying a cheating boyfriend’s “pretty little souped-up 4-wheel drive” before dumping him; maybe “he’ll think before he cheats” on whoever the next girl is. She thanked her fans heartily for the award, telling them they made the last two years worthwhile. Her debut album, “Some Hearts”, sold over 5 million copies. Last year had been her first ever acceptance speech, in a situation similar to Taylor Swift this year. Carrie Underwood gave Swift her award, but the new girl shook so badly from excitement she nearly toppled Underwood. Underwood says that was her, last year. Even this year, she nearly fell in the middle of singing “Before He Cheats” on the CMT… Read full article
Widow Angelina Jolie in “A Mighty Heart”
Friday, April 20, 2007
Thirty–one-year-old Angelina Jolie says “A Mighty Heart” is not designed to be a typical movie; polish and melodrama were avoided in making it. It is based on a memoir by Mariane Pearl, who lost her husband in 2002 while he was in Pakistan researching Islamic militancy. His videotaped brutal beheading sends his wife seeking and trying to save him for much of the movie. Jolie plays the part of the widow; some are calling it her most difficult role yet, liking it to the ground breaking role she play in “Girl Interrupted”. The director, Michael Winterbottom, shot the film in an unconventional way reminiscent of a reality show. Hand held cameras were common, and actors were free to improvise within the story line. Actors were followed wherever they went, which caused some tension as Winterbottom and Jolie debated legitimate places to follow. “A Mighty Heart”… Read full article

After her role as Arwen, one of the few main females in “The Lord of the Rings,” and a one-year break waiting for her son’s first birthday, 39-year-old Liv Tyler has added five more movies to her filmography, three of them to be released this year. People praise her performance in “Reign Over Me,” a fictional film about a man who lost his family from a plane hijacked on September 11th. She plays Angela Oakhurst, the thoughtful therapist attempting to help the man left desolate by the loss of his family, a role some viewers find unbelievable for her. “Smother” and “The Strangers” have yet to be released. “The Strangers” will come out this summer. Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman play a couple in a remote suburban house; three dangerous masked strangers target and terrorize them. Tyler similarly plays a wife in “Smother”, who is pressuring her… Read full article
