American Idol Star Jessica Sierra Charged with Battery, Drug Possession

Former American Idol contestant, Jessica Sierra was arrested on Sunday, April 29, 2007. She is being charged for drug possession and felony assault and battery; Sierra was released the same day on $11,500 bail.
Sierra allegedly hit a man over the head with a heavy glass during a visit to a local cafe. She was arrested and taken to the Hillsborough County Jail and charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, the Associated Press reports.
Police found a small amount of cocaine on her during a routine search. She is being charged with illegal possession and introduction of contraband into a correctional facility
The victim of the alleged assault suffered a cut over his eye. No further, specific information has been released about this man or other alleged injuries suffered.
Jessica Sierra, a Tampa, Florida native, was a top ten finalist on the 2005 season of American Idol. She was booted from the competition after she performed a disappointing rendition of the LeAnn Rimes song, “On The Side Of Angels”.
Last year Sierra was stalked by a fifty-nine year old man from California. The man became obsessed about Sierra after seeing her on American Idol. He called her on her cell phone and left her voice messages saying that he would be willing to go to jail for her. He even sent her flowers and expensive jewelry. He was arrested at her grandparent’s house after he flew from California all the way to Florida in an attempt to meet her. He left a voice message on her cell phone asking her to pick him up at her grandparent’s home.
Details of pending court appearances by Sierra on the charges have not been determined or disclosed at the time of publishing. No public statements have been made on Sierra’s behalf or by representatives of American Idol. The show has become accustomed to controversy from the contestants as well as the judges, but continues to draw millions of viewers and huge advertising revenue for Fox TV.
