Amy Winehouse cancels tour

Amy Winehouse has postponed her US and Canada concerts because of concerns about her health.

The popular British singer, who was recently taken to hospital, has been advised to rest by doctors after “the rigors involved in touring” took their toll.

The star recently pulled out of a number of engagements in Europe, including two concerts with the Rolling Stones, the V festival and the T in the Park in Scotland.

The US and Canada concerts are now due to go ahead early next year.

“Until then, Amy has been ordered to rest and is working with medical professionals to address her health,” said a spokesperson.

Meanwhile, the 23-year-old star today received four nominations for this year’s Mobo awards. She is nominated for best UK female, best R&B act, best song for Rehab and best video for Back to Black.

She has also been nominated for three MTV awards – best female artist, best newcomer and best video. However, it is unclear whether she will attend either event next month.

The singer was reportedly admitted to rehab last week for problems related to drug abuse.

Winehouse burst to fame in Britain in 2003 and her debut album, Frank, went to 13 in the album charts there. She was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize that year and went on to win the Ivor Novello songwriting award.

This year her popularity has rocketed worldwide following the release of her second album Back to Black. She has already won two major music awards in Britain this year.

However, the peak of Amy Winehouse’s popularity has been blighted by alcohol abuse and health problems, although she is expected to perform live in Britain in the coming months.
