Anna Nicole Smith’s Mother Confused in Court
Thursday, February 22, 2007
Anna Nicole Smith’s body has not yet been laid to rest due to legal battles. Smith’s long time companion, Howard K. Stern wants her to be buried next to her son, Daniel, in the Bahamas. Her mother, Virgie Arthur, wants Smith’s body to be buried in her home town of Houston, Texas and has filed for legal custody of the body; resulting in still another round of court hearings.
Wednesday marked the second day of court hearings in the case. On Wednesday, Virgie Arthur took the witness stand. She was often in tears and confused. She could not tell the court the date of her daughter’s death. She even went as far as to say that Stern’s lawyer was being “mean” to her and then asked if the lawyer could be as nice to her as she was to her client, Howard K. Stern.
When asked how she knew what her daughter’s wishes would be, Virgie Arthur stated that Smith told her where she wanted to be buried several years ago. Upon further questioning; she admitted that she had not seen nor spoken to her daughter during the last 15 years.
Stern’s lawyer then asked Virgie Arthur if she has profited financially from the death of either her daughter or her grandson (Anna Nicole Smith’s son Daniel). Virgie Arthur said that she has not. The lawyer presented evidence of a tape of Arthur at her grandson’s grave and asked the same question again. Arthur repeated that she has not profited financially. The lawyer then presented as evidence a copy of a contract signed by Arthur. The contract was an agreement for payment of $30,000 for pictures of the woman at her grandson’s grave. Then the question was asked again. After several minutes and many tears, Arthur said, “I’m still trying to process your question”. She was let off the witness stand without ever giving a clear yes or no answer.
In an even more bizarre comment, Arthur told the court that she plans on moving her grandson’s body from the Bahamas to Texas.
Anna Nicole Smith cut ties with her mother; saying that her mother was both physically and verbally abusive to her when she was a child. As evidence of Smith’s feelings towards her mother; a tape was shown of Smith in an interview right after her son’s death. In the interview Smith was shown the picture of her mother on Daniel’s grave. Smith said, “I can’t believe she had the nerve to come on my son’s 21st birthday and lay her fat body on my son’s grave”.
