Associates to Fans – Boycott Britney!
Wednesday, October 24, 2007
Things just keep getting worse for the former pop star Britney Spears, who is now facing recent allegations that the backup dancers from the infamous MTV Video Music Awards “Gimme More” fiasco haven’t been paid. While a change in Brit’s management may be responsible for the slip-up and will most likely be rectified soon, the negative press isn’t doing anything to help Spears.
Or is it? A MySpace page by the name of “Be Proactive to Help” has surfaced, urging fans to boycott Britney Spears for her own good. The page alleges that Spears continues to act in outrageous and uncontrollable ways in order to stay in the public eye. According to an insider, Brit has “horrible self esteem issues” and is terrified of losing consistent public recognition.
Sure, it makes sense. Spears wants attention, therefore acting out wildly in order to get it and she’s rewarded with tabloid and celebrity blog website articles about her every week. Fair enough. But who exactly are these people who are asking us to boycott Brit? The “Be Proactive to Help” members do not name themselves, for obvious reasons, saying only that they are “concerned friends and former associates of the pop star.”
Will boycotting Spears and her new album Blackout really make a difference? Will the media stop paying attention to her if her album sales come crashing down and tabloids with her on the cover stop selling? Not likely! Friends of the star say that Brit won’t let that happen. She will only act out with more extreme and foolish behavior until she gets the attention she wants.
Britney Spears will most likely continue making headlines for some time, despite any efforts by fans, friends or associates to ignore her. The potent energy the pop princess used to put into her once powerful career is now being channeled into getting as much media attention as possible. No matter which way you look at it, Brit is a force to be reckoned with.
