Britney Spears Accused of Child Abuse

Tuesday, August 28, 2007

Britney Spears and her ex-husband, Kevin Federline were in court on August 27 at a special and unscheduled hearing. There is also a complaint lodged against her with the L.A. County Department of Children and Family Services, but no mistreatment of the children are alleged.

The complaint involves poor dental hygiene, bad eating habits and bad sleeping habits. These complaints generally are kept secret, but they ended up in legal papers brought about by Spears’ ex-husband Kevin Federline.  This is the second allegation; the last one was filed July 2, but went nowhere.

In February 2006, Britney Spears was investigated due to the infamous car seat incident with son Sean Preston and again in April after Sean fell out of a high chair. At that time, K-Fed and Britney were still together and he supported her.

Britney Spears filed for divorce November 8, citing irreconcilable differences and asked for physical and legal custody of their two children, Sean Preston and Jayden James. Federline, at first didn’t fight for custody until media reports about Spears handling of their children sprouted up. Federline is suing for full custody of the children and has said he regretted not fighting for custody before.

Britney was born in Kentwood, Louisiana on December 2, 1981 and got her start in show business when she was eight, auditioning for the Mickey Mouse Club, but was too young. However, she was noticed by a producer on the show who introduced her to a New York agent. At the age of 11, she won a spot on the Mickey Mouse Club and was there for two years. She also appeared on Off-Broadway shows including ‘Ruthless’ in 1991. Soon, she began auditioning for pop bands in the New York area, and the rest as they say, is history.

Whether stardom, along with two marriages, the first lasting only a few hours and being a single mother are at the bottom of her bizarre behavior lately is not known.  The allegations are minor when one first looks at them. If poor dental hygiene, junk food and irregular bedtime are going to put parents under scrutiny, then we are all in danger. However, as Britney Spears’ behavior becomes more and more unstable, questions of the welfare of the children will continue.
