Britney Spears Loses Custody of Children
Tuesday, October 02, 2007
Britney Spears has lost the custody of her two young sons to ex-husband Kevin Federline.
It is not yet entirely clear what has caused the embattled singer to be ordered to hand her two children over to her former husband.
However, Los Angeles judge Scott Gordon has ordered that Federline should have custody of the children until “further notice”.
Up to now, Spears and Federline had shared custody of Sean Preston, two, and Jayden James, one.
On September 18, Baby One More Time singer Britney Spears was ordered to undergo random drug and alcohol testing.
The judge also ordered Spears to spend eight hours a week working with a parenting coach and both parents were ordered to refrain from alcohol for at least 12 hours when they have the children.
There is mounting speculation that the infringement of one of these rules has led to the judge’s sudden decision to grant Federline custody of the two boys, who will be handed over to him on Wednesday.
These are extremely troubled times for Spears. Last week it emerged that she is to face hit-and-run charges after she allegedly hit a parked car in a Los Angeles parking lot and drove off.
The owner of the car filed a report with police on August 9, three days after the alleged incident occurred. The extent of the damage to both cars is not known.
This latest development is another major blow for the singer as she could face six months in jail and a $1,000 fine if convicted.
While a new Britney Spears album is on the way, a lackluster comeback performance at last month’s MTV Awards have raised serious doubts about her future as a performer.
