Enquirer sued by JLo and Marc Anthony

Grammy award winner Jennifer Lopez and her not less famous husband, Puerto Rican Latin music singer Marc Anthony have decided to sue the sensationalist tabloid The National Enquirer in European Courts, due to the claims presented by that media company alleging last March 12th that they were related somehow to a particular drug scandal.
Belfast lawyer Paul Tweed – whose field of expertise is handling American celebrities’ legal cases in Irish and British courts – announced that famous actress and singer Jennifer Lopez and singer Marc Anthony were interested in a “six-figure settlement” from the Enquirer and, more specifically from its parent company, American Media Inc. Yet, the plain numbers are not the most important issue regarding the subject.
Tweed pointed out that the lawsuit also demands an apology and an adequate retraction regarding the information published by the National Enquirer in various versions of the tabloid and in both the US and international editions. “The lawsuit will be filed Tuesday in a Belfast court”, lawyer Paul Tweed said “and in subsequent days in courts in Dublin, London and Paris”.
It seems that the National Enquirer has decided not to say much regarding the issue. The only answer received came from American Media Inc.’s appointed spokesman Richard Valvo, announcing that they didn’t have any comments regarding the subject. “It would be our policy to not comment on it at this time”, Valvo said.
British and Irish editions of the National Enquirer published last March 12th that the couple were supposedly “caught up in a heroin scandal”. Together with the article the note included a picture that was taken back in 2004 where Grammy Award winner Marc Anthony is standing beside photographer Michael Star. Star is currently facing in US courts serious charges regarding drug (heroin) possession and child pornography issues.
