Hilary Duff feels pressed by media to get thinner
Tuesday, April 03, 2007
Although teen starlet Hilary Duff has claimed on several occasions that she has never suffered from any sort of weight disorder, she told People Magazine that the media keeps putting a lot of pressure on her regarding that subject. Being perceived as too fat or too thin by them, she has found their constant declarations and statements over her weight “judgmental” and “mean”.
With over 13 million albums sold worldwide and a huge array of fans all over the globe, Hilary Puff is one of the most recognized teenage stars of the moment. Having appeared in TV series such as “Lizzie McGuire” and having lent her voice for the computer animated comedy “Foodfight!” (To be distributed this year), Duff has at her short age participated in the most important media sectors available: television, music, movie and computer industry.
Born in Houston, Texas on September 28 1987, Hilary Duff was the second child of Bob Erhard Duff, a local businessman owner of several convenience stores around the area and Susan Colleen Duff, housewife. Both parents were quite supportive with their daughter’s artistic inclinations, promoting both Hilary and her sister Haylie to take acting classes and to participate on several local theatre productions. With a predisposing natural ability and the corresponding familiar support, both girls ended up having successful careers in the entertainment business. They’ve acted together on several occasions and have traveled together on many of Hilary’s concert tours around USA.
The whole eating disorder story seems to have originated back in 2005 when Hilary Duff decided to take a whole month off her daily routines arguing it was her personal gift for her 18th birthday. Although many different claims were made by diverse sources, Duff stated that same year in the “Today Tonight” Australian show that she suffered of no such problems and that her weight lost was due to “living a more active lifestyle”. It was later reported that she lost even more weight (reaching an US size zero) product of the constant pressure exerted by the media (that claimed she was fat). Being or not influenced by the media regarding this delicate matter, she did raise a voice of protest on more than one occasion and has politely asked them to let her be.
