Julia Roberts was back in the news this weekend when she picked up the 2007 American Cinematheque Award in Los Angeles.
The Pretty Woman star was chosen for the award, which honors career achievements, last July when she was the unanimous choice of the Cinematheque Board of Directors.
“I really am just a girl from a little town in Georgia, who had this giant, absurd dream,” she said at the awards ceremony.
“I think I came along at a kinder time in the business.”
Previous winners include Martin Scorcese, Al Pacino, Nicolas Cage, Steven Spielberg, Nicole Kidman, and Tom Cruise.
Roberts remains one of Hollywood’s best loved actresses and won an Oscar in 2001 for her role in Erin Brockovich.
She was also nominated for Academy Awards for best supporting actress for “Steel Magnolias” and best actress for “Pretty Woman”.
Roberts next stars in the Afghanistan war drama Charlie Wilson’s War opposite Tom Hanks, which is scheduled for release in December.
Speaking at the awards, Tom Hanks said: “Everybody loves Julia Roberts. Everybody, everybody, everybody.”
Julia Roberts recently gave birth to her third child, Henry Daniel Moder, and has twins Hazel Patricia and Phinnaeus Walter, 2, with husband Danny Moder.
Since her 1988 breakthrough in Mystic Pizza, the 40-year-old has appeared in many blockbusters including Steel Magnolias, Sleeping With The Enemy, My Best Friend’s Wedding, Notting Hill and Oceans Eleven.
Last year she added her voice to two animated features, Charlotte’s Web and The Ant Bully. Julia Roberts is already lined up for three movies next year – The Friday Night Knitting Club; Eat Pray Love; and Happiness Sold Separately.
