Kelis Arrested and Released on Bail

Hip hop artist, Kelis, was arrested in Miami, Florida over the weekend. Miami police say that she interrupted an undercover police operation, charged at two undercover cops posing as prostitutes, and screamed a slew of racial profanities at the two women police officers.

The official Miami police report states that Kelis Rogers - Jones (age 27) was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest without violence.  The entertainer was later released on a $1,500 bail bond, according to a Miami-Dade county spokesperson.

The arrest report states that two county police officers were posing as prostitutes along the night club strip section of South Beach. Kelis started screaming profanities and racial slurs at the two women. Then she attempted to rush towards them and had to be held back by her friends.

Kelis calmed down for a few minutes before rushing at the two cops a second time.  At that time, the two police officers had no choice but to arrest Kelis. The police report says that she resisted arrest while being handcuffed.

Kelis was born in Harlem and left home at 16. She had a variety of jobs working as back up singers for various gangster rappers. She caught media attention for her curly hair which she dyed various colors.  Her biggest hit record has been the song, Milkshake, which reached the top ten in 2003.

Kelis’ publicist, Tracy Nguyen, had no immediate comment about her client’s arrest. It is unclear as to who Kelis legal representation will be.  The police report does not state what brought on the incident.
