Kyra Sedgwick Announces Emmy Nominations
Thursday, July 19, 2007
Bright and early this morning at 5:30 am Kyra Sedgwick and Jon Cryer announced the Emmy nominations.
Kyra Sedgwick had done a read through of the nominations earlier but at that time they had omitted her name (so she had no idea she was nominated). It helped that there was a tie in her category with five other ladies; Patricia Arquette, Minnie Driver, Edie Falco, Sally Field and last year’s winner Mariska Hargitay, so she was none the wiser.
While Kyra Sedgwick was reading the top nominations for leading actress in a dramatic series live she saw her name appear on the Teleprompter — and couldn’t prevent what her reaction was — her jaw dropping. “It was kind of awful to have that kind of reaction,” Sedgwick told People magazine.
Sedgwick started acting at the age of 16 when she appeared on the soap opera “Another World.” She married Kevin Bacon in 1988, a year after meeting him in a movie that they appeared in together. She built up her resume by starring in many movies like Oliver Stone’s “Fourth of July” in 1989. But her big break came in 2006 when she starred in the TNT drama “The Closer.” She plays a Souther-born detective that has a knack to get confessions from people. Sedgwick brings a great quality to her character that makes this crime drama different from the rest. The series was picked up for a second season in 2007.
How does she plan on celebrating? Her husband is in New York so she hopes to talk to him sometime during the day. But later on, “I think I might have a nice dinner and some champagne,” says Kyra.
In 2006 Sedgwick was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series, Emmy Award and for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series - Drama, Golden Globe Awards, but was overlooked by both. Now Sedgwick finds herself in the same position this year, having received the same nominations for the second consecutive year. But this year is already off to a better start, Kyra Sedgwick has won the 2007 Golden Globe for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.
Winners for the Primetime Emmy Awards will be announced on Sunday, September 16, 2007 at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.
Fans of the female celebrity can catch her on TNT Monday nights for new episodes of The Closer, or look for Kyra Sedgwick in the upcoming movie release of The Game Plan.
