Lindsay Lohan Talks About Her Childhood, Feeling “Safe”

Lindsay Lohan, the star of the films ‘Mean Girls’ and ‘Freaky Friday’ is a survivor. At the age of 20 she has already lived through more than most; including having the career of her dreams, battling addiction, and being the glue that keeps her family together. In an upcoming edition of Allure magazine, Lohan talks about her life.

Thanks to Disney, Lohan first gained success in the movie industry. It was Disney Studios that cast her in several remakes of their classics, including ‘Freaky Friday’. But it was ‘Mean Girls’ that gave Lohan her first critical success. ‘Mean Girls’ was the break through movie that led to more mature roles for Lohan.

In the May edition of Allure Magazine, Lohan reveals that she still does not consider herself to have addiction problem; this despite her one year in AA. “I don’t know that I’m necessarily an addict,”, she says.

In fact, she claims that she was driven to rehab by a friend who had “more problems than I did,” says Lohan.

Her stay in Wonderland Center was not planned. According to Lohan, she visited Wonderland on the advice of her therapist. Once there, she discovered how quiet it was. Her decision was made when she was told that the center was secluded from paparazzi. Lohan states that she found a place where she felt safe, “ a quiet room, all white, with parquet, and it was different! I just felt safe.“ Lohan continued, “And I stayed there. For a month. It was great.”

It is when she talks about her troubled childhood that Lohan really comes clean. Coming from a dysfunctional family, Lohan states that she feels compelled to make everyone happy.

Being the oldest of four,( brother Michael, 19; sister Ali, 13; and brother Dakota, 10.) Lohan was also the protector of the family.  She still feels responsible for the well being of her family. Says Lohan , “I feel like a second parent in the sense that I helped raise my family. The fact that my sister is not here – I’m kind of angry with her. Because it freaks me out.”

“When my friends and family are around me, I feel like they’re safe,” Lohan says. “The craziest things can happen, but it’s OK.”
