Lindsay Lohan Cleared in Clothing Theft
Friday, May 18, 2007
Lindsay Lohan’s most recent involvement with Los Angeles law enforcement started in April with an accusation of stolen clothing. A house sitter filed a report with police claiming Lohan had entered her apartment and stole clothing worth several thousand dollars. The house sitter later told authorities that she had offered Lohan the clothing. The District Attorney’s Office declined to file felony grand theft charges on May 9th based largely on a lack of sufficient evidence. Authorities claimed that a plaid shirt seen on Lohan did not match photos of a shirt claimed to be missing, and they will not be pursuing the case any further.
Lohan, who is famous for several B-list attempts at A-list movies, has made herself infamous for being a lush. Recently she was a guest on the Ellen DeGeneres show, where she discussed turning 21. Lindsay said more than a few of her club-owning friends were glad that she was now “legal,” as it greatly reduced the likelihood she would bring those legal repercussions with her frequent club appearances.
This most recent accusation is another bad mark on an already extensive list of theft charges and reported drug use associated with Lindsay Lohan. While she may be experiencing some relief that the charges were dropped, the story calls to mind the fact that she has only made recent news for her involvement with local authorities, only this latest of which has been positive. Still, this is the best news the recently turned 21 year-old has seen in a long while.
Los Angeles Deputy District Attorney Greg Sommers said about the recent theft case, “The bottom line is that Lohan can’t be shown to have been seen either taking or to have been later in possession of missing items and items she can be shown to have possessed were with [the house sitter’s] permission.”
