Mariah Carey Sued by Ex-Manager
Thursday, September 06, 2007
Mariah Carey could have to fork out a significant amount of cash after it emerged she is being sued by her former manager Jerry Blair.
Blair has claimed that Carey owes him a share of her record and tour profits from her hit 2005 album, The Emancipation of Mimi.
The star’s former manager was dismissed as president of Carey’s Monar C Entertainment company shortly after the album was released.
The New York Daily News quoted a source as saying: “Jerry stood by Mariah through her breakdown. He believed in her when other people lost faith… She wanted to distance herself from anybody who saw her in those dark times.”
There has been no response from Carey’s representatives as of yet.
Mariah Carey has become one of America’s biggest female stars since she shot to fame in 1990 when her debut album Mariah Carey met with critical acclaim.
In the mid nineties, her fame spread worldwide with the release of her Music Box album. As the decade progressed, her music became increasingly influenced by hip hop and R&B.
Carey and her husband Tommy Mottola split in 1998. As the decade neared its end, she achieved almost full creative control over her music, which leaned heavily towards the hip hop genre. Although this didn’t go down well with more conservative fans, her popularity soared.
In 2001 Carey had what is described as a physical and emotional breakdown. Many believed her career was over, but the release of her 2005 The Emancipation of Mimi album confirmed she was truly back in the limelight.
Interestingly, Jerry Blair now works with Mariah Carey’s ex-husband Tommy Mottola at his Casablanca Records label.
