Michelle Williams splits with Heath Ledger

In an unexpected move, adorable Dawson’s Creek costar-turned leading lady has split with her significant other of three years, fellow actor Heath Ledger.  The two met on the set of Brokeback Mountain, in which they co-starred together as husband and wife, in 2004.  According to sources associated with the film, the pair had an instant connection as soon as they set eyes on each other.  Michelle and Heath conceived a child during filming and Michelle gave birth to their daughter, Matilda, in 2005.

Sadly, the intense feelings they had for each other were not meant to last.  Many sources close to both Heath and Michelle insist that the relationship had been tumultuous for some time, although the couple remained silent about any problems they were having.  Friends say the pair had tried to make the relationship work; however, they were unable to do so as a result of growing apart.  Still, the two insist that the split was on friendly terms, and sources close to the couple confirm this.  Heath has publicly named Michelle the “perfect mom,” although she insists that she began working again much too soon after Matilda was born.  Michelle laments, “I’m just learning lessons now, like learning how to be a working mom.”

Some may chalk it up to “Hollywood relationships” which many believe are never long-lasting.  Williams and Ledger’s split will be far from the messy divorce that the Hollywood tabloids are making a killing off nowadays – the pair never married so the dissolution of the relationship will not involve any legal issues.  Friends of the two believe that they will stay close for the sake of their daughter, because they are first and foremost parents to her.  Both Michelle and Heath’s primary goal is to make the transition as easy as possible on Matilda.
