Nicole Kidman has told Vanity Fair magazine of how she suffered a miscarriage when she was married to Tom Cruise.
The Hollywood star revealed that she lost the baby when she was 23, early in her 11 year marriage to Cruise.
In the interview in October’s issue of Vanity Fair, which is out on Friday, Kidman says: “From the minute Tom and I were married, I wanted to have babies. And we lost a baby early on, so that was really very traumatic.”
Kidman and Cruise went on to adopt two children, Isabella and Conor.
The 40-year-old actress is now married to Keith Urban and says she is desperate to have a child.
“I’m yearning to have one. I think it would be very sad if I wasn’t able to have a baby. Keith knows I want one, and he has been getting there slowly,” she said.
After a number of television and movie roles in the 1980s, Kidman made her Hollywood breakthrough in 1989 in thriller Dead Calm.
In the early 1990s she starred alongside Tom Cruise in a number of films including Days of Thunder, and Far and Away. The pair’s marriage brought the Australian actress firmly into the limelight.
She received an Oscar nomination for Best Actress for her role in Moulin Rouge! in 2001, before actually winning an Oscar a year later for her role in The Hours.
Kidman recently revealed that she was engaged to another man between her two marriages, but declined to say who. It is though to have been either Lenny Kravitz or Steve Bing.
“It just wasn’t right. I wasn’t ready. We weren’t ready,” Nicole Kidman said.
