No Driver’s License and Missed Drug Test Cost Britney her Children

Wednesday, October 03, 2007

Britney Spears gave her children, sons Sean Preston 2 and Jayden James 1 to ex-husband Kevin Federline October 1 due to a Judge’s order to relinquish custody temporarily. The judge stated that Spears had been ordered to show a valid California driving license and to undergo random drug testing. Evidently, she failed to get the license and failed to show up for the drug testing. According to Britney and other sources, this was a simple mix-up.

After handing her sons over to Federline, Britney applied for a California driver’s license in Van Nuys. She had been charged with misdemeanor driving without a valid license and hit-and-run following a fender-bender in a store parking lot August 6.

This is a temporary custody order and if Britney can prove to the judge that she is actually trying to get her act together, she could regain custody very soon.

Britney’s lawyer, Sorrell Trope stated Federline claimed Britney did not comply with the previous order the court made about having a random drug and alcohol test. There is no evidence that she actually failed the test, but the courts see the failure to take the test as the same thing as not passing the test. Another hearing is scheduled for October 3.

Spears’ well known behavior in the recent past, which continues to plague the 25-year-old singer today, her legal problems and the loss of her children now has prompted friends and family to worry that she could become suicidal.

Doctor Drew Pinsky, host of a popular call-in radio show the Loveline expressed his view on the suicide risk. Britney had a horrible divorce, stressful career and is probably suffering from postpartum depression, according to Pinsky. “If you add all that and the loss of child custody, you will have someone who will become suicidal, I am totally convinced [of that.]”

There is hope that she can come through this if she picks a good counselor and gets a different set of friends, according to Los Angeles divorce lawyer Connolly Oyler.
