Reese Witherspoon Avon

Oscar-winning actress Reese Witherspoon, 31, has officially signed a multi-year deal with cosmetic company Avon as its Global Ambassador.  This position did not exist until now.  Witherspoon will be Avon’s spokeswoman and will be involved in product development and appear in Avon advertising, including web sites and brochures, and serve as the Honorary Chairman of the Avon Foundation.  According to its website, the Avon Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) public charity which was founded in 1955 and whose goal is to improve the lives of women and their families by raising awareness of breast cancer and domestic violence, among other things.  Financial terms of Witherspoon’s contract were not disclosed.

Witherspoon said, “Avon is more than an iconic world class beauty leader - it is a company that is known the world over as a crusader for women’s causes...I’m very excited about working with the Avon Foundation… First and foremost, breast cancer research and awareness, programs that they’re working on, [is] a cause that’s very close to my heart. Someone very close to me is a breast-cancer survivor… As a woman and a mother I care deeply about the well being of other women and children throughout the world… I am truly impressed by how Avon has been able to effect real change in the communities in which it does business and by how committed the company is to providing economic and personal fulfillment to women all over the world.”

Witherspoon has starred in the movies “Pleasantville”, “Cruel Intentions”, “Election”, “American Psycho”, “Little Nicky”, “Legally Blonde”, “Sweet Home Alabama”, and “Just Like Heaven”. She received an Oscar award for Best Actress in 2005 for her portrayal of June Carter Cash in “Walk The Line.” Her movie “Penelope” will be released next month.

Reese Witherspoon has also been active with Save The Children and is on the board of the Children’s Defense Fund.  She has two children, Ava, who is eight, and Deacon, who is four, with former husband Ryan Phillippe, whom she divorced in 2006.
