Rose McGowan Refuses to Be Jaded

Despite five seasons on the TV series “Charmed,” Rose McGowan fit double shifts in the movie “Grindhouse,” released last week.  She says the two-part movie is not a run-of-the-mill horror film.  The director, Robert Rodriguez, says he used McGowan as the foundation for Cherry Darling, a depressed go-go dancer with a machine gun.  McGowan is by far one of the strongest females he’s known, he claims.

This strength might refer to the plastic surgery McGowan, age 33, had to get earlier this year.  She insists she merely refuses to be jaded; bad things are blown off with a laugh and a smile.  She suggests it might be the Irish tendency to make fun of anything tragic, but she’s fine with it, whatever it is.

The double duty came in two roles for the movie “Grindhouse.” She’s Cherry, who’s down on her luck and loses a leg to flesh-eating zombies to boot, and Pam, the nice gal on the block who’s stalked by a murderous sociopath.  Her part as Cherry was difficult to manage, since she had to move as quickly as everyone else, with a machine gun, and with a heavy gray cast on her leg, murdering her posture.  On the bright side, it did help her with her balance problems, and it did work her muscles.

According to rumor, McGowan also managed to break up the director’s marriage of 16 years.  The producer of “Grindhouse,” Elizabeth Avellan, has separated from her husband, Director Rodriguez, in spite of their five children due to her husband’s affair with the actress.  McGowan hasn’t officially commented on the matter.

“Grindstone,” rated R, throws logic out the window as it reproduces the grindhouses that had their heyday in the ‘70s.
