Sandi Thom Victim of Flood - Thousands in Damages

Monday, July 23, 2007

Sandi Thom

Scottish singer Sandi Thom has become the latest victim of the floods devastating the south of England this week.

The floods, which are reported to be the worst to hit Britain since 1947, have filled the 25 year old female singing celebrity’s flat in Tooting, London, with three feet of water.

Sandi Thom is currently on holiday in Greece and has not been made aware of the damage which was discovered by her brother who had gone round to feed her cat.  The musician had amps and guitar in her lounge which have now been ruined and the flooring in her flat obviously heavily damaged.  Replacements and repairs are likely to cost thousands of pounds.

Thom has recently completely her second album - her debut record Smile… It Confuses People topped the UK album chart – which is stored on her home computer and is reportedly undamaged.

This flat is the same one that shot Sandi to fame in February last year when she performed her ‘21 Nights from Tooting’ tour.  Instead of traveling around the country performing to live audiences, Sandi broadcast her gigs from her flat across the internet allowing whoever logged on to her website to watch her perform.  Six hundred and seventy viewers tuned in for her first performance and this number quickly rose to 70,000 by the middle of the second week.

The success of her performances led to the re-release of I Wish I Was a Punk Rocker which topped the singles charts in Australia, United Kingdom, Ireland and Sweden.

Last month floods hit the northern part of England, damaging much of Yorkshire.  This prompted new Prime Minster Gordon Brown to pledge an extra £250milllion a year for flood defenses.  Unfortunately for Sandi Thom and the thousands in a similar, or a worse, position, these improvements will come in too late.
