Sarah Harding Angry at Media Double Standards
Thursday, July 26, 2007
Girls Aloud singer Sarah Harding has hit out at the media, claiming that their coverage of her is unfair and that they have double standards when it comes to male and female drinking habits.
The blonde beauty has a reputation of being a party-goer in Britain’s tabloids and was hotly tipped to win The Sun’s ‘Caner of the Year’ in 2006 – an award for the celebrity most regularly photographed whilst drunk. In the end, the award was won by Oasis’ Noel Gallagher.
Twenty-five-year-old Sarah said, “I’m not always out getting drunk. Admittedly I went out a couple of nights in a row recently but so what? The press make such a big deal of it, it’s just double standards. When blokes get drunk no one bats an eyelid. But when it’s me or Amy Winehouse having a drink ... we get slated. It’s not fair.
“And anyway, what’s wrong with us having a drink? It’s what most girls our age do.”
Her objection to the press exposure that she receives coincides with the beginning of radio play of the Girls Aloud upcoming single Sexy! No, No, No… which was premiered on Radio 1 on Friday 20 July.
Like all of their previous singles, the Girls hope that this song – an up tempo track perfect for nightclubs – will reach the top ten of the UK singles chart when it is released on 3 September.
A new album, their fourth studio recording, is also due out later this year with some websites stating that the release date is 19 November.
Girls Aloud have been criticized in the past for releasing cover versions – five of their fifteen singles have been covers including two of their three number ones – but they have promised their fans that this album will be contain wholly original music.
When talking about their upcoming album, Sarah said, “We can’t reveal anything just yet except that it’s a really great new edgy sound and we hope you love it as much as we do.
“And you will be pleased to know there will be no covers on this album!” concludes Sarah Harding.
