Scarlett Johansson’s Growing Reputation
Friday, March 16, 2007
Though only age 22, Scarlett Johansson has already worked twice with director Woody Allen—and now, she’ll be working with him a third time. This third film to follow “Match Point” and “Scoop” lacks a name so far, but it should start shooting this summer in Barcelona and Asturias, Spain. It’s said that Johansson serves as Allen’s most recent muse, along with such actresses as Diane Keaton and Mia Farrow.
Scarlett Johansson’s popular enough that the quartz surface company CaesarStone uses her role in “The Nanny Diaries” to advertise their contest, since the winner of the contest will receive two tickets to the movie premiere with full trip airfare and accomodations provided. She was also used in a recent study examining consumer trends, evaluating if celebrities can significantly influence consumers’ buying trends. The study suggests they do—inversely.
Reputedly, Johansson may star in New York for a South Pacific production. As one of the actresses the theater is considering for the role of Nellie Forbush, a U.S. Navy nurse, the musical’s scheduled revival will take place in the Lincoln Center after its planned opening in January of next year. The theater allegedly wants this rendition of “South Pacific” to be sexy rather than stodgy.
Johansson has been considered for theater parts before in the recent past. She was slotted for a part in a London stage production as Maria in “The Sound of Music”, but that ultimately ended up dropped when the theater impresario and her management couldn’t agree about her fees and contract conditions.
