Melanie Brown aka Scary Spice Files For Paternity Against Eddie Murphy

Melanie Brown aka Scary Spice, 32, filed a petition in the Los Angeles Superior Court yesterday.  Brown is seeking to legally establish actor and comedian Eddie Murphy, 46, star of “Beverly Hills Cop” and “Dreamgirls” as the father of her infant daughter, Angel Iris Murphy Brown, who was born on April 3. She is also seeking sole custody of the child and reasonable child support, according to her attorney Gloria Allred.

Brown said, “I am here for one reason and one reason only - her name is Angel. Angel is my baby and Eddie’s. She will always know that she was planned and wanted by both of us, but I want her to know that she has two parents who desire to be responsible for her during her life and who love her so much that they want to be a part of it.” She also said that they had been dating for four months before deciding together to conceive a child and that she was shocked when Murphy publicly said he was not sure he was the baby’s father. 

According to Allred, Murphy took a DNA test in June that “established paternity but paternity has not been legally acknowledged.” Murphy is listed on the birth certificate as the baby’s father.  Allred also said that Murphy “has not paid one penny of child support” and “was promising to do the right thing, but to date he has not done the right thing. Mr. Murphy can have all the babies he chooses to have, but his responsibility needs to be to his own children” and that Murphy has shown “shocking and appalling” conduct since the test.

Melanie Brown’s lawyer Gloria Allred said: “Eddie Murphy has not paid one penny of child support and we plan to ask the court to award child support and to decide what is reasonable… We’ve had communication with his attorney, and now we’re moving forward.”
