Shakira Shows She is More Than Just Hips

Shakira, the 30-year-old Colombian singer who is known for her fantastic hip action is more than just a pop star.  Shakira is taking the class ‘Introduction to Western Civilization Ancient Civilizations from Prehistory to Circa A.D. 843’ at UCLA. She started taking the class after she completed her latest summer tour.

Shakira told class lecturer Robert Cleve that she was visiting from Colombia and was taking the class for her own enjoyment and entertainment.  Shakira often takes classes and tutorials on the history and languages of the countries she visits.

Shakira known for her last years hit Hips Don’t Lie among other hits released her first album when she was 14. She did take some time to finish high school, which shows that the beauty is more than hips and songstress.

Shakira achieved stardom in Latin America and Colombia and soon become one of the biggest pop crossover stars since Jennifer Lopez to make it big in America. She maintains a great deal of control over her music as she wrote or co-wrote much of her material and has earned the deserved reputation of being a poetic lyricist. She instantly became a hit in 2001 with her English album when she combined poetic songs and her sexy video of the combination of belly dancing and fast hips.

Shakira was born February 7, 1977 in Barranquilla, Colombia to a poor family. Her mother was Colombian and her father was of Lebanese decent so she had a rich culture of music.

She wrote her first song at the ages of eight and began entering and winning talent competitions by the time she was 10. She started learning the guitar when she was 11.

Shakira has worked with Emilio Estefan, Gloria’s husband who acted as her manager and producer in 1998 seeking to build on a Western following.
