Sinead O'Connor CD Sgning For Her New CD Theology

The most memorable aspect of Sinead O’Connor is her first album ‘The Lion and the Cobra’ released in 1987 and her single ‘Nothing compares 2 U’, a hit in 1991. The other thing that the Irish singer Sinead O’Connor is noted for is her appearance on NBC TV’s Saturday Night Live series when she tore up a photo of then Pope John Paul II accusing the Catholic Church of child abuse in 1991, an eerie premonition of things to come since she did this before all the scandal about the subject appeared. However, O’Connor fell into oblivion shortly after that.

Like the phoenix, Sinead O’Connor has risen through the ashes seemingly a bit more respectful to religion and a bit more mature with her newest CD ‘Theology’, an album about God. She sings about love, hope and worship, in what she calls her own little response to what is going on politically and spiritually in the world after September 11, 2001. O’Connor said she chose scriptures that were gentle because she wanted to display the goodness and greatness of God, rather than a God that is angry and vengeful.

The reviews for her album ‘Theology’ have been rather mixed since its July debut.

City Beat reviewer Mike Breen gave it a B.

“The album is two discs; Disc One is quieter, coffeehouse versions of the same songs that get a fuller, Peter Gabriel-like makeover on Disc Two. Though she’s gone pretty deep into the “mature” phase of her career, it’s hard to deny that Sinead remains a strong songwriter and even stronger poetess.” Breen said.

Rolling Stone magazine had a different opinion. “How awesome is it being God? Not only do you get Sinead to praise you in her reggae hymn “The Glory of Jah,” you get a bonus acoustic version! Damn, Jah ? that’s a heck of a lot of glory! If you are not Jah, however, you may lack the stomach for Sinead’s mega-sincere tributes to Curtis Mayfield and...2007.”

Most reviewers gave it a three.

Sinead O’Connor is touring Europe and North America to promote the CD.
