Sinead O’Connor Reveals her Bipolar Disorder

Sinead O’Connor revealed on the Oprah show that she was diagnosed with bipolar disease four years ago. The 40-year-old singer told Oprah and the viewers October 4 on the Oprah Winfrey Show that she struggled with thoughts of suicide and overwhelming fear before her diagnoses. She said she would often wake up crying for no reason and compared it to ‘leaking tears from every pore.’
O’Connor said the medication has helped, but she is still a work in progress, according to CNN. The medication is a mood stabilizer, anti-depressant and helps her sleep better. Bipolar disease is also known as manic depression. A person with this disease exhibits signs of very high and overly active moods often with hyper behavior and extremely low depressed moods.
Sinead said she attempted suicide on her 33rd birthday.
When speaking to Oprah, Sinead said she has a lot of sympathy for Britney Spears.
“She had two babies within the space of two years and [there] doesn’t seem like a terrible amount of support is coming from the people around her,” she said. “I think to attack someone as a mother is very dangerous. I would say that’s what puts a young girl on a precipice which is very, very dangerous in my opinion. Some people may end up really regretting the way they have treated her.”
O’Connor lives in Dublin, Ireland with her four children. She released a new album called ‘Theology’ earlier this year. Many of the lyrics are strongly influenced by the Bible.
Sinead O’Connor broke into the public eye in 1990 with the release of her single ‘Nothing Compares 2 U.’ However, she is probably best known for her antics when she tore up a photo of Pope John Paul II during a 1992 appearance on NBC’s ‘Saturday Night Live.’
