Spears Bid For Custody Put On Hold
Monday, October 29, 2007
Britney Spears and Kevin Federline spent nearly three hours in court in a closed door meeting October 26, which ended up on hold with the next court date set for October 30. The hearing was closed then put on hold after extensive testimony on a number of issues in the case said Federline’s lawyer Mark Kaplan.
“Something has changed, but I am not allowed to say anything about that,” Spears’ lawyer Sorrell Trope said. Spears’ only comment about the hearing was an epithet at a reporter in the hallway after he asked her how it was going.
Scott Gordon, the Superior Court Commissioner said previously there was evidence that Spears is a ‘habitual, frequent and continuous’ user of drugs and alcohol and withdrew approval for her to even visit the children after finding she had failed to comply with some conditions for shared custody. He later withdrew the ban and allowed her to visit her sons, but only in the presence of a court-approved monitor.
Britney Spears previously was allowed weekends with her children, but the court allowed only one day of the weekend with her this time, according to CNN.
Although no one is saying what is causing this closed door hearing and why one day of visitation was taken away from Britney, it may have something to do with a possible testimony from the court ordered parental monitor. Perhaps, the monitor may have said something that didn’t make the judge very happy. No one will know until October 30 when the judge will announce a decision. Spears’ next court date is November 26.
In the mean time, Britney Spears’ mom, Lynne Spears is penning a tome about raising her family in the glare of the media spotlight. The book is titled ‘Pop Culture Mom: A Real Story of Fame and Family in a Tabloid World’ and is set for release May 11, which just so happens to be Mothers Day.
