Winona Ryder Finally Talks About Her Arrest

Winona Ryder

Winona Ryder is finally opening up to what was rather the darkest chapter of her life.

Almost six years after her December 2001 arrest when she was caught on a videotape trying to steal merchandise from Saks Fifth Avenue in Beverly Hills, Ryder speaks out about the unpleasant incident in the next month’s cover story of Vogue magazine. “I didn’t have this tremendous sense of guilt because I hadn’t hurt anyone,” she tells the fashion magazine. She also adds that if she had hurt anyone physically in the incident, the entire experience would have been different for her.

When asked what her personal reaction was, she simply puts it, “I didn’t do anything. I just waited for it to be over”. Not doing anything would mean never saying a word and not releasing a statement on her end. She confesses though that it was all the attention that was embarrassing and that she felt disappointed at how her arrest outdid other news such as the believed arrest of Osama Bin Laden.

In her interview with Vogue, the academy-award nominated actress talks about her rough life before the infamous arrest. She says, “Two months prior to that, I broke my arm in two places.” Accordingly, she was given a couple of medications to soothe the pain by her “sort of quack doctor” that consequently made her reach the point when she doesn’t seem to know if she’s still in pain but is still taking the medications. The medications included painkillers such as Oxycodone that left her confused. However, she still thinks of her arrest as “a blessing, because I couldn’t do painkillers anymore”.

When the court issues were decided, she made up her mind to do a voluntary exile and moved to San Francisco to stay near her supportive parents.

Now the 25 year old actress is back to work after a long time. Winona Ryder has three new films due out to finish 2007 movie season.

Winona Ryder teams up with fellow female celebrity sensations Jessica Alba and Gretchen Mol in The Ten; a comedy of ten stories based on the Ten Commandments.

Next, Winona Ryder takes on another leading actress role in Sex and Death 101, as a female fatale in a dramatic comedy where she is tracking down men guilty of sex crimes.

As irony would have it, she will finish out 2007 with the release of “The Last Word”. Acting alongside comedy legend Ray Romano and teaming up with female celebrity Pippi, Winona Ryder again takes on the leading actress role as well as being the film’s main character.

Winona Ryder is back; she is putting the 2001 arrest behind her and moving forward.
